- Are impurity peaks annotated on the chromatogram, or is only a single number given?
Genuine purity data varies slightly from batch to batch. A supplier reporting identical purity for every product and every batch is reporting a marketing number, not a measurement.
3. Batch traceability
- Does every vial carry a lot number?
- Can the supplier provide the COA for a specific lot number on request, even months after purchase?
- Does the supplier retain batch records for traceability if a result needs to be investigated later?
4. Cold-chain and handling
- How is the product stored before shipping — ambient, refrigerated, or frozen?
- What shipping method is used, and is insulation or cooling used for temperature-sensitive material?
- Is the packaging sealed against moisture ingress?
A break in the cold chain is invisible on arrival; the only protection is a supplier with controlled storage and validated shipping.
5. Product range and specialisation
- Is the supplier a specialist in research peptides, or a general retailer selling peptides alongside unrelated consumer products?
- Is the product range focused on laboratory research compounds, or does it mix in items intended for human use?
- Are the product descriptions written in neutral, chemical-focused language appropriate for research, or do they make implied-use claims that signal a non-research orientation?
A supplier whose entire business is research peptides is one whose quality systems are built around the product you are buying.
6. Customer evidence
- Are there verified reviews from named research organisations or university laboratories?
- Do the reviews describe specific products and specific results, or only generic praise?
- Is the supplier willing to provide references for institutional buyers?
7. Operational signals
- Is the website transparent about the company, its location, and its contact details?
- Are terms of sale, returns, and research-use disclaimers clearly stated?
- Is customer service reachable and responsive to technical questions, not only sales queries?
Using the checklist
No single item on this list is decisive. A supplier may publish excellent COAs but have weak cold-chain handling, or strong reviews but a narrow product range. The point of due diligence is to build a picture from the evidence in the round, and to choose a supplier whose practices — across transparency, traceability, handling, and specialisation — consistently support reproducible research.
A laboratory that runs through this checklist before a first order is a laboratory that is less likely to discover, months into a project, that its underlying material was never as trustworthy as it seemed.
